At the Basin Reserve

J'ville Young Guns 156/5,  V Robinson 2-24, D Croft 1-15
Karori Wildcats 157/3 (15.5), B Bradley 68 (42), V Robinson 32 (27)

By winning round robin Wildcats did deserve
Some great news on a Thursday
The venue for Playoff not Karori or away
But a once-in-a-lifetime game at the Basin Reserve.

With dozens of fans there for a perve
We won the toss for the 9th time
Hoping to pitch the ball on a dime
Tom and Nando were bowling at the Basin Reserve.

Sneaking slick singles, 77 from 10 o'vers
J'ville's openers were hard to dismiss
Then George's first ball took an edge kiss
And Alex gloved nicely at the Basin Reserve.

109 after 14, not a steep run curve
Next wicket was run-out by Buchan
Vaughan, Blair, and Crofty bowling to plan
The Wildcats feeling good at the Basin Reserve.

Crofty and Vaughan made batsmen unnerve
One snicked off Dan, another bowled by Big V
Wildcats fielders dug deep, Rupert's shoes made him Jonty
Piling on pressure at the Basin Reserve.

J'ville focused on wickets preserved
They made 156/5, tight bowling all innings
We thought Wildcats could have winnings
If they chased that total at the Basin Reserve.

J'ville's bowling lines had real swerve
A few wides against our opening bats
And George and Blair avoided all possible spats
Making 24 from 3 at the Basin Reserve.

Vaughan entered Wellington's cricket preserve
        Once Hampton's stumps shook
He and B Bradley smashed it textbook
Striking seven sixes at the Basin Reserve.

The biggest six was one to observe
Vaughan launched over pavilion into a tree
It skipped fence, rolled Cambridge, down to KFC
All said "the biggest six ever at the Basin Reserve"

But could the Wildcats hold their nerve?
Mowing down the chase, we were 103 from 10
Then Woodcock struck twice, so Alex and Kurt left the pen
Needing 30 runs for victory at the Basin Reserve.

It's a Bittersweet Symphony, sung the Verve
But a steady ship, and solid fours,
And a tactical leg bye, with level the scores
Kurt (9*) and Alex (18*) secured our Win at the Basin Reserve.

This will go down in history, if memory does serve
The finest Wildcats moment, a day at the Basin Reserve.

Chahooo! What a great season Wildcats.
14 games, 13 wins, 9 trophies, and Team of the Year
Wildcats. It's way of life!
